Brushing Technique

A brushing technique that focuses on cleaning the gumline and improving gum health and is often recommended for people with gum disease, gingivitis, or recession of the gums.

  1. Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush: A soft-bristled toothbrush is gentle on your gums and teeth and will help prevent further damage to your gums.
  2. Position your toothbrush: Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gums.
  3. Place the bristles on the gumline: Place the bristles of the toothbrush on the gumline with the bristles pointing towards the tooth.
  4. Press and vibrate: Press the bristles gently against the gumline and vibrate the bristles in a circular motion for several seconds. This will help dislodge plaque and bacteria that can cause gum disease.
  5. Roll the bristles down: After vibrating the bristles, roll them down towards the biting surface of the tooth.
  6. Brush the biting surface: Use gentle back-and-forth motions to brush the biting surface of your teeth.
  7. Brush your tongue: Brush your tongue gently to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
  8. Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after brushing to remove any remaining toothpaste.
  9. Brush twice a day: Brush your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time.
  10. Replace your toothbrush: Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

It is a gentle and effective way to clean the gumline and improve gum health. It’s important to note that this technique may not be suitable for everyone, and if you have severe gum disease or recession, you should consult with your dentist or periodontist for treatment options. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are also important for maintaining good oral health and preventing gum disease.
